When I started at The New York Times as a WordPress Engineer, my first major project was the rebrand, rebuild and reorganization of the company’s internal employee website.

Their previous iteration was split into two environments, was not properly organized and had a difficult editing workflow. I was tasked with leading a team of contract engineers, configuring the organization, re-categorization and migration of over 30,000 pieces of content, collaborating with designers to achieve the complex look and train all content contributors on their new workflow.

The new and improved intranet has had a large effect on the company as a whole, making it easier to find important updates, learn about benefits and policies and foster a collaborative community.

I steered the engineering team in organizing 188 entitlement attributes from our HR portal as well as building 26 custom page templates, 15 custom post types, 16 custom taxonomies, 7 custom user roles and 43 custom Gutenberg editing blocks. All of these elements come together to create an intuitive editing experience for the content creator and a seamless web experience for the user.

The site now serves all 5,000 employees, averaging 15,500 page views per week.
